The final year of the Guide’s Exhibit coincides with the publication of a new book, “Guides Past and Present,” by exhibit coordinator, Dr. Barbara Wilkinson. The book, which features pictures, history, and tales of local colorful personalities, is available for $20 from the Land O’ Lakes Historical Society, Trading post Internationale, the Tackle Box, the Forest Lake Country Store, and the Land O’ Lakes Pharmacy.

The first year of the Donaldson School exhibit features a magnificent model of the school created by Wes Geib, local artisan. The Donaldson School was a two-room country school located in the long vanished lumber mill town of Donaldson which flourished at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. Donaldson was located just two miles West of present day Land O’ Lakes (then known as State Line), on the North and South sides of Hwy B, near the present day Bear Trap Supper Club. Only the foundation and steps of the school remain.
